Window Screen Cleaning in Tesuque

Cottonwood season is the reason to time this well. A screen cleaned in April is loaded again by June; cleaned once the drop finishes, it stays clear through most of the summer. It's the same money spent to much better effect a few weeks later.

Catkins mat into the weave
Tesuque's mature cottonwoods and fruit trees shed catkins, pollen, and sap, and screens take all three. Catkins are fibrous and they mat together across the mesh, then sap bonds the mat in place. The result holds every bit of dust that arrives afterwards, which is why a screen under a cottonwood can look and behave like a solid panel by early summer.
Acequia silt underneath it
Irrigation along the ditches keeps fine silt in the air and leaves mineral spotting where overspray reaches the windows, so there is a mineral layer under the organic one. We remove each screen, lift the matted catkin-and-sap layer, wash both faces, and treat the mineral deposits on the frame. Traditional adobe openings here are rarely interchangeable, so each screen returns to its own.
