Screens out here take a constant load of fine wind-driven grit, and on older properties the screen frames themselves are often original and fragile. We remove, hand-wash, rinse, and reinstall each one, working carefully with aged frames.
Old wooden screen frames and original hardware don't tolerate being flexed or pressure-washed. We wash these flat and by hand rather than propping and hosing them, which is how old frames get racked out of square.

Continuous grit, not seasonal
Open grassland with almost nothing to break the wind means Lamy screens take airborne grit steadily through the dry months rather than in bursts. Screens that are never cleaned become a standing dust reservoir directly in front of the glass, so every gust pushes some of it through onto a window that was cleaned last week. Cleaning the glass without cleaning the screen is close to pointless here.
Older screens need careful handling
Much of the housing stock is older, and so is much of the screening — wood frames, aged spline, mesh that has been in place for decades. Those do not survive rough treatment. We remove each one carefully, hand-wash with a soft brush rather than pressure, rinse until clear, and check the frame and mesh condition, telling you plainly if a screen is past the point where cleaning helps.
